Healthy choices: Are you concerned about cancer or other diseases?

Are you concerned about cancer or other diseases?  Healthy Choices early in your life may help you avoid them altogether.  Here are a few Simple choices you might consider to help your body stay healthy.

1. Eat  most of your vegetables raw to preserve their nutrients and enzymes.   Use organic food when available (especially to avoid pesticides).

2. Use  sun blocker lotions instead of regular lotions or oils.  Avoid excessive sun exposure.  Protect your eyes with good UV sunglasses.

 3.  Exercise, walk, run, participate in outdoor activities or get to a gym in bad weather, loose your “I’m too tired excuse”, (substitute TV time with exercise time, or combine the two).  Exercise will invigorate you.  Just don’t do too much, to fast.

4. Take good quality vitamins and mineral supplements, pack in those anti-oxidents.  Zap those ”free radicals” before they can hurt you.

5.  Choose a positive outlook on life.  Tell yourself you are healthy.  Take  care of yourself today and don’t worry about getting diseases.  If  other family members have had some disease that doesn’t mean you will get it.  Genes may have negative markers but do not always express themselves in people the same way (or at all).

6.  Choose an easy living, low  stress lifestyle.  Take time for fun, watch comedy and laugh.  Laugh at the over- serious side of yourself.  Choose simple, low cost living.  Take on less debt.  Start a savings account and build up a healthy reserve fund.  Get pleanty of sleep.  Choose a balanced life style with time for family, friends and relaxation.  Try a yoga class so you get exercise, relaxation and time with friends all at the same time.

OK, your turn.  Make a list of Healthy choices you can make to maintain or obtain excellent health, reduced stress and a balanced life style.

Stay Well, take care of yourself.  Your body and brain are under your care!

Ideas to Improve “financial fitness” even in hard times

You can Improve  financial fitness, even in hard times.  The major problem in most households and businesses  is lack of income.  It could be from job loss or declining markets, or from trying to get your debts reduced or just trying to stretch your dollars to cover family or business costs.  Almost everyone, regardless of their current financial or income status could enjoy the benefits of more income.

OK…..So how do you increase your income to improve your financial fitness?

I.   START YOUR OWN BUSINESS:  Almost anyone can start a business of some kind.   Today the internet is probably the easiest and cheapest place to  start a business.  Even persons with severe handicaps have been able to succeed online.  There is lots of good advice available from experts, (but, you  need to check out sources as  there are some who will offer you “how-to courses” that don’t work or they don’t have support systems  to help you).

II.  GROW AN EXISTING BUSINESS:  If your business has a market, you need to reach out and attract more of that market to your business.  Go  “back to the basics” that you used when you attracted your first customers and re-implemented those strategies!  Are you using the internet in your business?  If not, get with it.  Tell the world about yourself on Face Book or Twitter (free) or start a blog and get people interested in you and what you do.  Use the search engines to make yourself aware of marketing strategies used by others (adapt  their ideas to your business).    Perhaps you are in an industry where the market has been cut in half, now what?  1. don’t give up!  2.  get three or five  associates together and brainstorm, look outside the box!  What related areas can you apply your skills to, what new markets could offer your services to.  Or how could your skills save them money in hard times?.  3. Add other skills, services or goods to your business that are attractive to other markets.

III.  MAKE YOURSELF MORE VALUABLE AT WORK:   1.  pass on money saving ideas to your employer.  2. improve your attitude toward your job, your boss, the companyand your industry.  You may be noticed more and recognized as a better employee (could also save your job)!  3.  Learn more about your industry, about other positions within your company.  Learn other jobs within the company and take advantage of all company education, knowledge makes you more valuable (and more secure).  4. If you know others are being laid off, see if you can take on a part of their job to help the employer, if you can you may earn the right to ask for a raise for the extra work.

Fitness is everything

“Fitness is everything”, simply means your life will have the greatest quality if you are FIT.

Physical Fitness: More energy, greater strength, improved stamina, mobility,  and flexibility. Improved blood flow, metabolism and organ function.  Improved Brain health, memory, learning ability, attitude and self confidence.  More resistance to disease, so- called genetic imprint illnesses and injuries from activities.    Faster healing,  improved ability to handle stress, increased longevity, enjoyment of activity, and better appearance.   Huge Benefits !!

Brain Fitness: Improved ability to think, reason and learn.   Improved memory, disposition and attitude.  Improved ability to handle stress, reduce liklihood of dementia and short term memory loss.  Get more enjoyment out of life !   Loads of Benefits and NO downside.

Financial Fitness: Reduce stress.  Work from a position of abundance.  Learn to use Goals, planning and systems to change your financial position.  Learn how and when to purchase the things you need and desire without causing “money problems”  (the biggest point of argument in relationships).  Money makes life easier.  More benefits.

Spiritual Fitness: Whatever your belief system, having it and using it to find inner peace will be of benefit.  All areas of Fitness have positive influences, most belief systems have positive elements.  Choosing the positive elements, applying meditation and reasoning and keeping in mind that everyone is special will bring great benefits.

We all start walking with baby steps.  That’s a great way to approach becoming Fit in all areas of your life.

Wishing you “easy living and fitness”

Using a System to aid in Decision Making

Using a system to aid in Decision Making

Benjamin Franklin in a letter to Joseph Priestly described his decision making system as a possible means to help Mr. Priestly reach a decision.

In a brief  excerpt from his letter, Ben Franklin describes his system:

“my way is to divide half a sheet of paper by a line into two columns; writing over the one pro, and over the other con; then during three or four days’ consideration, I put down under the heads short hints of the different motives that at different times occur to me, for or against the measure.  When I have thus got them all together in one view, I endeavor to estimate their respective weights; and, where I find two (one on each side) that seem equal, I strike them both out.  If i find a reason pro equal to some two reasons con, I strike out the three.  If I judge some two reasons con, equal to some three reasons pro, I strike out the five; and thus proceeding I find at length where the balance lies; and if, after a day or two of further consideration, nothing new that is of importance occurs on either side, I come to a determination accordingly.  And through the weight of reasons cannot be taken with the precision of algebraic quantities, yet, when each is thus considered separately and comparatively, and the whole lies before me, I think I can judge better, and am less likely to make a rash step; and in fact I have found great advantage from this kind of equation, in what may be called moral or prudential algebra”.

Thus, he took a sheet of paper and divided it and labeled it, Pro on the left side and Con on the right.  Below each selection he listed his reasons, observations, and other items to be considered on each side.  He then weighted the items according to their importance.  (read additional details from quote above).

NOTE:    Always take your time, Quick decisions are often charged with emotion, causing one to turn the “Pro” into an excuse to say yes,  rather than a solid reason.

A system will help to take the stress out of decision making because you look at both sides of a question with more detail and objectivity.  The written sheet can be used to argue the validity of your decision (assuming you have really been objective).

If you haven’t tried it or not used it for awhile, give it a shot.

Hot tips for a healthy brain

I.  Exercise:  Aerobic exercise is a key.  Walking is fantastic. Get your heart rate up.  Don’t use age as an excuse, even the  young benefit with improved reasoning,  memory and problem solving skills.  Exercise has also been shown to reduce anxiety and depression.  You will feel better!

II.   Reduce Stress:  Stress is very harmful to the brain.  Stress causes the brain to send messages to the organs to produce chemicals/hormones,  that in small amounts are OK,  but when built up in your system can cause negative changes in the brain and the body.          Remember these 3 rules: 1)  look at the positive side;  2) live in the “NOW” .  You can only control your actions and reactions this moment, let  the negatives of the past fall away.   3)   Exchange your worries of the future with positive thoughts and actions today.  Start with a goal or plan and say “I can” !!

III.   Get pleanty of sleep:   The rested brain thinks better.  A trick to better sleep is to repeat positive thoughts to yourself as you go to sleep.  What you are happy about, or thankful for, or wish to accomplish.  Wake up happier.

IV.   Use your  senses to stimulate your brain:  If you see it, smell it, hear it, touch it your body is sending  4  separate messages to your brain.  To remember names  when you meet someone new, take a moment, look in their eyes,  repeat their name, notice perfume or cologne, shake their hand,  ask them a question, feel their presence.

V.   Learn something new:  Learn a language, do a crossword puzzle, add and subtract without a calculator, read a book, start a blog or an internet business, engage in debate with a friend.   Active learning will stimulate your brain more than passive learning like staring at the television.  Pick something you are curious about or passionate about.

You can do it!   Take one little action today and add another tomorrow.

Hot tips to protect your vision

Keeping the eyes fit is basic to physical fitness and will help you avoid Age-related Macular Degeneration (ARMD).

1.   Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from glare, even on bright cloudy days.

2.   Give your eyes a break:  Get off that computer every hour or so.  Take a break from TV, intense reading, etc.

3.   Watch what you eat:     Your diet should be low in fat (even vegetable oils) as fat increases  the risk of ARMD.  The exception is Fish oil which provides Omega 3 Fatty Acids.  In a University study they discovered that the more fish eaten and Fish oil supplements taken the lower the risk of ARMD.

4.   Lose Weight:  The more fat you carry the greater the risk of  getting ARMD  (and the rate of its progression,  if you already have it).  Losing weight can  also help you  avoid adult onset diabetes and heart and circulatory diseases.

5.   Supplements can help:  Vitamin c and zinc have been associated with lowering risk of ARMD, along with other supplements.  And,  remember those Omega 3 Fatty Acids found in fish oil.  Buy the best quality supplements your budget will allow.

6.  Watch Carbohydrate intake:  Most carbs are OK, just watch out for those rated high on the  Glycemic Index.

Five easy ideas to get you moving toward becoming physically fit

1.   Approach exercise with a positive attitude.  Do it for you!  See it as fun, not a job.  Start NOW!   Keep  a journal, log  your  achievements, ignore mistakes,  visualize the good stuff and go to sleep with winning  thoughts.

2.   Set a regular time and place for your fitness activity. Consistancy helps build habit, making exercise part of your lifestyle. A comfortable environment increases your liklyhood of success.  Choose a place that motivates you to take action.  Start at home?

3.   Set a goal and be specific about what you want.  General goals are like passing thoughts, interesting but not motivating.  Choose a goal you think you can reach.   Change your goals as you build your belief in what you can accomplish.   Break your goals down into realistic steps, the idea being,  to make exercise fun and rewarding.

4.   Start with fun exercise,  like walking with a friend or an activity familiar to you.  If you’re averse to “working out” consider low stress  Yoga or Tai Chi.  Both build strength, stamina, flexibility and improve relaxation.  Start with a video at home or join a group for support.

5.   Start  with a coach.  Videos offer training  from a professional for most activities.   Many gyms offer free group classes and  resonably priced training packages.

Precautions: Ask your Doctor if you are healthy enough to exercise;
Stretch before you start; warm up; go slow; use smooth motions;  Have a  sharp pain – STOP, get medical help!
